We love to welcome people into our historic home offices, but we can help you without you needing to leave home. You can meet with an attorney for free in our offices, over the phone or video call– whatever works best for you.
What can I expect from my Free Consultation?Your free consultation is your opportunity to know your legal options and the potential value of your injury case. Meeting with a Skaug Law attorney does not commit you to hire them. We will not pressure you to make any decisions.
Use this meeting to see if your attorney is a good fit for you. Here are some things to look at—
- Listened to me and took my situation seriously.
- Answered my questions clearly.
- Showed they cared about me.
- Office appears well organized.
- Has support staff to keep things moving.
- Has trial experience in injury and work comp cases.
- Wins for their clients.
You will meet with a friendly, experienced lawyer.
Our legal team includes a former U.S. Congressman, a former judge, the former president of Nampa City Council, former insurance defense attorneys, former county prosecutors and a Marine officer attorney who served two tours in Afghanistan.
With all of their successes, our lawyers are still friendly, down-to-earth people.
If you decide to hire your Skaug Law attorney, you will be working with that same lawyer and legal staff until your case is resolved.
What should I bring to the meeting? We can give you the best advice if you bring the list below. But don’t worry if you don’t have all these things. We can help to get all the information needed to win your case.
- A copy of the police report.
- Your auto insurance policy.
- Contact information on the other driver.
- Name of the other driver’s insurance company.
- Witness contact information.
- Medical records related to your injury.
- Photos from the collision.
- Newspaper clippings or printed web pages about your collision.
Come as you are. No need to dress up. We want you to have a comfortable experience when you visit our office.
Our staff usually dresses business casual. Your lawyer may be wearing a coat and tie. Fridays are jean days (except for lawyers who have depositions or court).
What if I'm far away or prefer to not come to the office in person?Skaug Law serves all of Idaho and Eastern Oregon. If you live far from the Treasure Valley you can do your initial consultation on the telephone or we can do an online video meeting if you’d like to ‘meet’ more officially. Then, once we get started, we can do everything over the phone and Internet for the length of your case.
If you’d still like to meet in person then we are always happy to come to you.
How long with the Free Consultation take? You should allow about an hour for your first-time consultation. This gives us enough time to really understand your case. We also like to have plenty of time to answer any questions that you have and give you a clear idea of what to expect moving forward.
What if I'm most comfortable speaking in Spanish? We want you to feel comfortable and to have everything explained to you in your native language. That’s why we have eight bilingual legal staff, including two lawyers, who are here for you during your entire case.
If I want to hire my Lawyer do I need to make a down payment? No, like most injury law firms, we are paid at the end of your case and you only pay lawyer fees if you win.
Lawyer fees are based on a percentage of the compensation you win. The percentage varies based on your injury situation.
Studies have shown people with an attorney win more compensation money, after paying their lawyer, than if they handled their cases on their own.
